About
Saint Sophia School

Learning Through Wonder, Tradition, and Discovery

Saint Sophia School blends experiential learning, rich arts education, and daily outdoor exploration to shape confident and curious young learners. Rooted in Hellenic and Christian traditions, our philosophy honors the development of the whole child while keeping class sizes small and tuition accessible. Here, children don’t just learn—they discover, create, and thrive.

Welcome to the Saint Sophia School community. We want you to know that here at Saint Sophia School we have planned a unique, safe, and engaging PreK and Kindergarten curriculum for your child to learn and grow. Your child will learn about nature in our beautiful outdoor campus through planting, drawing, playing, and using all their senses to peak their natural curiosity. Through hands-on, project based experiences, we will help your child to make meaningful connections to all areas of the curriculum so that they can be better prepared to navigate their futures.

I invite you to become a member of the Saint Sophia School community. Think of the great possibilities awaiting you and your child. I want to personally invite you to come visit us, take a tour of the school grounds, experience it for yourself! I am thrilled to be a part of this special community here at Saint Sophia School and I look forward to working with each of you.

Our Mission

Saint Sophia School’s mission is to provide young children with a strong foundation for continuous intellectual, social, spiritual, and physical growth. We cultivate an educational environment where children are active learners—explorers, discoverers, experimenters, and artists—engaging with the world through curiosity, creativity, and imagination.

Saint Sophia School is built upon the ancient Greek ideal of sound mind, sound body (Ένα υγιές μυαλÏŒ σε ένα υγιές σÏŽμα) and grounded in Christian principles of faith, love, hope, and service. Children are introduced to cultural heritage through Modern Greek songs, rhymes, sounds, and letters, creating meaningful connections to history, community, and identity. Guided by this rich foundation, we foster a positive spiritual environment where children learn to care for themselves, one another, and the world around them.

Roots & Ethos

Founded in 1996, Saint Sophia School opened its doors in 1997 to the community of Salt Lake City, Utah.  Beginning with Pre-K and Kindergarten, the school added a grade every year until reaching the sixth grade.  The school is a non-profit 501 C 3 and is governed by an advisory board.   The founding families reached a milestone in 2010 when Saint Sophia School’s first sixth-grade class graduated from high school and in 2014 from college.

In the spring of 2016, Saint Sophia School changed directions and focused exclusively on Early Childhood Education.  We are thankful for the opportunity to provide children with the foundations for intellectual, social, spiritual, and physical growth in those critical years where they can Discover, Explore, Create, and Imagine.

Our Story

Curriculum, Arts and Learning Environment

Saint Sophia School’s curriculum follows the Utah State Core Standards for Pre-K and kindergarten and is enriched through meaningful, real-world experiences. Children learn early literacy, math, and science concepts by exploring nature, solving problems, and engaging in hands-on projects that deepen understanding. Our wooded campus and outdoor classroom support scientific inquiry, sensory learning, and environmental awareness, allowing academics to blend naturally with outdoor discovery.

The expressive arts are woven throughout the curriculum. Children create in the Atelier, study color and form, and explore the artistic traditions of the Masters, developing creativity, imagination, and confidence. In each classroom, small class sizes and individualized attention ensure that every child feels supported, engaged, and encouraged to take risks in their learning. These nurturing, joyful environments help children feel secure, inspired, and connected—laying the groundwork for strong academic and personal growth.
