DANA EASTON – Director

Dana is in her second year as Director, and brings with her over 30 years of experience in education, teaching elementary school for more than two decades before moving into administration. She holds a B.S. in education from the University of Utah, a Master of Education from Westminster, and a Master of education in Educational Leadership from Brigham Young University.  Dana is a PTA Golden Apple Outstanding Educator recipient, National Energy Foundation Academy Medallion Level winner, and an Outstanding Educator Award nominee. She is excited about being a part of the Saint Sophia School family, and is looking forward to having the students read to her!


Judy Haws - Office Manager

Judy has been with Saint Sophia School for 11 years. She was fortunate to see the first group of 6th graders graduate. Judy does not consider her position as office manager a job but a wonderful place to come to every day. She loves to be with all the wonderful children and staff. Judy enjoys camping and being with her family.

 

LORRAINE NICHOLS – Preschool 3-year olds

Lorraine has been teaching early childhood education for over 20 years.  She began her career developing techniques and skills to help students who had difficulties with reading fluency become successful readers. She also piloted programs in early childhood education and Head Start in Granite School District. Lorraine joined Saint Sophia School in 2008 as the physical education specialist for grades K-6 and as a pre-K teacher. She moved to the fifth grade teacher starting the 2009 school year – expanding her students’ learning experiences and enabling them to think “outside of the box.”

 

SHELLY HOWELLS – Preschool 4-year olds

Shelly has been teaching at Saint Sophia School since 2004. Trained in early childhood education, she teaches the three- and four-year old classes.  Her classroom provides “hands on” experience, helping the children learn from manipulating their own materials and thrive on being successful.  Shelly strives to establish a solid foundation for exploring and learning, and to help build the children’s confidence and self-esteem. Prior to Saint Sophia School, Shelly taught at Cottonwood Canyon Montessori School for 14 years.

 

Brian Lampe– Kindergarten & First grade

Brian is new to Saint Sophia.  He graduated from California State University at Sacramento with a B.S. in Social Science and Education.  Brian has devoted himself to both teaching and a musical career playing guitar.  Wanting to be closer to friends and family, he moved to Salt Lake City in 2007.

HALLIE MYLER – Second grade

Hallie has been with Saint Sophia since 2008. Mrs Myler is excited to teach second grade this year. She has two daughters that keep her busy and in her free time she likes to watch movies, go to the mountains and spend time with her family.

 

LAURA MENOUSEK – Third  & Fourth grade

Laura is new to Saint Sophia. She recently graduated from Utah State University with a B.S. in both elementary education and early childhood education. This is Laura’s first year as a teacher. She is excited to put into practice the skills and ideas she has gained in other’s classrooms as an aide. When Laura is not teaching she loves to spend her time reading.

CARLOTTA WOODS – Fifth & Sixth grade

Carlotta is new to Saint Sophia School, but she has taught both elementary and middle school for over 15 years. She holds a B.S. in elementary education with a minor in biology, and a Master’s of education from the University of Utah.  Carlotta is the 2001 U of U Young Alumni Outstanding Educator Award recipient.

 

CARRIE PAPPAS – Greek language

Carrie is a lover of languages and culture. She taught French and Spanish for a decade in Colorado before joining Saint Sophia in the school’s founding year. In addition to being a teacher, Carrie is also a school parent – both her daughters attended Saint Sophia.

 

NITSA TSOUSOUNIS – Greek language

Nitsa is a native Greek speaker. She earned BAs in both French and Spanish from the University of Utah. She also holds certificates in computers and marketing. Prior to moving to America, Nitsa worked in the business relations / marketing department of the Hellenic Shipyards in Greece. She has been at Saint Sophia since its founding.

 

GRANT CARTER – Computer

Grant is starting his second year at Saint Sophia. He has a dual teaching certificate for early childhood education and elementary education. His computer classes work on basic skills such as keyboarding, software applications, and creating student projects. Grant provides a foundation of computer skills that are practical for today’s technology-driven society. He believes using technology can make learning fun. Prior to working at Saint Sophia, Grant worked in Granite School District for 34 years. His wife, Melissa, works with him at Saint Sophia as a volunteer.

 

JODY MULLIGAN – Physical education

Jody has been with Saint Sophia School since 2006. She holds a degree in elementary education with a minor in physical education and health from the University of Northern Iowa.  Prior to heading our P.E. program, she taught 2nd grate at Saint Sophia. Jody previously taught at the McGillis School.
