WOOPS! WRONG DATE

REGISTRATION FOR NEXT YEAR!

Dear Parents,

We will be taking registration for the 2012-13 school year on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.   It is the only day for our students to register. This will guarantee a spot for your child in the classroom.  Open enrollment begins on January 17th and we are expecting new families to register.

We are keeping tuition the same as last year which is good news since other private schools are increasing their tuition.  Your child will continue to receive a great education with qualified teachers at an affordable price.

We are asking that you pay the supply/registration fee on the day of registration.  If this causes hardship for your family we will extend the due date to February 12th allowing you another month to pay.  The final date to pay these dues will be February 12th.  After that, any students that have not paid the fees will be removed from the list to allow another student to enroll.  Please note that supply/registration fees are now considered one fee and is non refundable.

Well December is here and we are busy learning about holiday traditions around the world.  We would love to hear about your family's traditions to celebrate the holiday season.  My family is from Italy and the tradition is that LaBefana visits the children on January 6th bringing goodies that she has made to the good little girls and boys.  The naughty children gets coal in their shoes.  It is fun for everyone to hear how each country celebrates Christmas.  If you would like to share your custom with your child's classroom or entire school we would love to have you come.  Please call me or talk to your child's teacher to arrange a time.  We are a diversed school filled with many different backgrounds.  I am excited to learn about the many different traditions.

Buon Natale everyone-translation:  Good Christmas!

100% CONFERENCES HELD

Thank you families for attending parent teacher conference.  We reached our goal of holding 100%.  That justs proves how involved and committed you are with your child's education.  Our Book Fair was a success as well.  Thank you for purchasing books last week and supporting our school.

November is coming to a close and we will be focusing this week on healthy living.  Students did a great job with Jump Rope for Heart and your donations will help with heart research.

Just a reminder that this is a short week having NO SCHOOL this Thursday and Friday so that we can celebrate Thanksgiving with our families.  Wednesday is a short day so no lunch will be served.  School will be dismissed at 12:00.

We are postponing our celebration Friday this month since you have already had the opportunity to come in and see what your child has done.  Our next "CELEBRATION FRIDAY" will be on Friday, December 16th at 2:00.  Your child will perform in our Christmas program and afterwards spend some time with Santa and Mrs. Claus.  Please save that date so that you can attend. Your child will be able to leave with you after our celebration.  Winter recess will be from December 19th until January 2nd.

HAPPY NOVEMBER

I can't believe it is November.  The year is going by quickly and we have accomplished a great deal already.  The Biography Museum was so much fun.  The students did a fantastic job and it was such a joy to ask each one about their biography hero.  I was impressed with how much they could tell me.  The projects were amazing and I loved the outfits.  What a fun day.  We celebrated watching Night At the Museum and saw many of the characters that were at Saint Sophia yesterday morning.  Activities like this will last a lifetime in your child's memories and this is the best way to learn.  Everyone was engaged in learning and I am sure they had an enjoyable time learning.

November will be a great learning month as well.  Our focus will be on Healthy Lifestyles and Olympics.  Teachers not only will be teaching the core curriculum, but will be assessing your child in preparation for Parent Teacher Student Conferences which will take place this month.  We ask that you bring your child with you to their conferences.  While at your meeting you will help set up learning goals with your child and the teacher.  This is an important time to go over their achievements and set up goals that they will work on.  Keep Thursday, November 17 open for your conferences.  There will be sign up sheets in the main hall for you to sign up for a time to meet.  Conferences will be held from 9:00 until 12:00.  Students will not be in school that day, but please plan to have them with you.

OXI NIGHT AND DAY AT THE BIOGRAPHY MUSEUM

Hi Parents,

First of all, I would like to thank all of you who took the time to fill out our survey about our webpage.  We have read the comments and plan to follow through with your suggestions.

Second on the list is to remind you of OXI NIGHT this coming Thursday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Your child will be performing on stage for you and afterwards we will have a nice dinner for your family.  If you have not made reservation for dinner please do so, to assure that there is enough food for everyone.  I hope to see you there.

Finally, on Monday, October 31st we will be holding our "CELEBRATION" for the month.  It will begin at 9:00 a.m. in our small gym.  Your child has been reading about a real life hero and will display a factual project about that person while being dressed as that person.  It is our "BIOGRAPHY MUSEUM" and you will walk through a maze of exciting characters.  It will be truly "A-MAZING!"

October has been a very busy month, but it has been worth it.  We have had great experiences that your child will remember.  I know that it has been thrilling for me and the memories will last a lifetime.  You are the best and I am very fortunate to be part of a great school.  Thanks for all you do!

A BIG THANKS!

Thank you to all of our wonderful parents and students for showing up very early Wednesday morning for FOX 13 Cool Schools broadcast.  I had a great time and it looked like everyone else did too.  Our students were awesome and did a fantastic job.  We are truly a "cool" school.

Just a reminder that our fun is continuing this coming week with OXI night at 6:00 pm.  The students will perform and we with have a wonderful dinner afterward.  Thank you to Erin Tsilis for making this night a special one.

Our Celebration Monday on October 31st  will display a "Biography Museum" in the small gym.  Our students will become famous characters in history and display facts that they have read about those famous people.  It will take place from 9:00 to 10:00.  Everyone is invited to see this event.

Saint Sophia is a special place and you make it happen.  Thank you again for your support and enthusiasm.  I love it!

WE ARE A COOL SCHOOL!

Saint Sophia School has been nominated as a Fox 13 Cool School.  We will be on the air Wednesday, October 19th during their morning news broadcast with Big Budah.  Fox wants us here at 5:45 a.m. so that we are ready for the 6:00 news.  I know that I will be going to bed early on Tuesday night.  We will count the hours that your child is here as part of the school day, since they will be working on school activities.  Therefore, we will dismiss school at noon that day.  This works out well for families, since Fall Recess is on Thursday and Friday and gives you a head start if you are planning a trip out of town.  We will not have lunch at school that day.

We will feature OXI songs, speeches, and dances; share the Greek culture; show the result of our food drive; and tell them that we are a school of caring and do several service projects throughtout the year.  We will emphasize how our focus is on the arts, sciences, and building critical thinkers.  It will be impressive.  If any of you could record the newscast for us, so that we can watch it as a school let me know.  I would love to have our students watch themselves on television.

Please have you children in full dress uniform for the day.  Donuts, coffee, and cocoa will be served.  If you have any questions please call me.

OCTOBER ACTIVITIES!

October has begun and so has the practices with our Oxi program.  Students are singing, dancing, learning poems, etc. for our festivity that will take place Thursday evening at 6:00 on October 27th.  You and your family are invited to attend our program and enjoy a nice dinner sponsored by our SSSPA.  More details will come home.  Besides learning about OXI, we are busy with safety and saying NO (OXI) to drugs.  It is Fire Prevention Month and Red Ribbon Month.  The Unified Fire Department will visit our school next Wednesday at 9:30.  They will bring their trucks and talk to our students about the equipment and how to stay safe during a fire.  Thank you Shawn Winder for setting that up for us.  We will hold Red Ribbon Week on the last week of October.  Since OXI mean NO we thought it would be a great time to say OXI to drugs.  We will be learning ways to keep our bodies and minds healthy.

Our SSSPA volunteers are sponsoring a food drive next week.  Utah's Food Bank is in desperate need for food.  Since we are a school of caring we felt it was a good time to help.  Have your students bring in can foods so that we can help those who are less fortunate.  The drive will take place the week of the 10th and go until Friday.

We have Fall Recess coming up on October 20 and 21st. We will not be in school for those two days.  Wednesday the 19th we will have school all day.  That means we will eat lunch here at Saint Sophia.  So bring your cold lunch kids.  You are doing a very good job remembering your lunches everyday.

If you have any questions please call our school.  Thanks for you support.

WELCOME BACK MISS JUDY!

Miss Judy is back on Monday!  We have missed her and happy that she is back.  Celebration Friday was a success!  Thank you parents for coming and spending time looking at all the work your child has done during the month of September.  October will bring more exciting activities and our focus is on fire prevention, red ribbon week-saying NO to drugs, OXI night which is on the 27th at 6:00, and our "Specials" which will focus on biographies and a Worlds Fair.  This will be presented to you on our next Celebration Friday, October 28th.  We are so proud of our students accomplishments.  They are hard workers and becoming critical thinkers.  Thank you for your continued support.

PICTURE DAY- MONDAY SEPTEMBER 26TH

Just a reminder that we will have our pictures taken this Monday the 26th.  Your students should be in full dress uniforms and pre-school students in nice attire.  Please bring in payment for pictures on Monday to give to the photographer.  The office will not collect the money.

Mrs. Judy will be back from sunny California on October 3rd which is coming quick.  We have missed her and will be glad to see her happy face.  She and her family have been vacationing this entire month.  We hope she had a great and relaxful time.  She deserved it!

CELEBRATION FRIDAY will take place on the 30th this month from 8:15-9:00.  You should receive an invitation from one of your children.  To save paper and printing costs family notes will be going home with the oldest child who attends  Saint Sophia.  If you are not receiving notes from school, please give me a call.  I hope you are reading my blog weekly.  This is a great way to communicate.

LET'S CELEBRATE!

First of all I would like to thank all of you who took part manning our booth during the Greek Festival.  I appreciate your time and support.

We have many things to share and celebrate for the month of September.   This Friday we will celebrate Saint Sophia Name Day.  Saint Sophia lived many, many years ago and named her three daughters after the three virtues, Faith, Hope, and Love.  The name Sophia means wisdom and our school is named after her.  If you would like to learn more about Saint Sophia go to http://www.st-sophia.com/st-sophia/

Remember picture day on Monday, September 26th.  All children will have their picture taken whether you purchase pictures or not.  Their pictures will be displayed on our school composite.  It is full dress uniform for the day.

On the last Friday of every month we like to celebrate all the wonderful things that your child has been working on during school time.  Our first Celebration Friday will be on September 30th.  Please join us for coffee and cocoa any time between 8:15 and 9:00 a.m. so that your child can take you around and tell you all about what they have been working on and learning. You will be impressed with what they have made.

GREEK FESTIVAL SEPTEMBER 8-11

With fall season approaching it is time for the Annual Greek Festival which will be held at Holy Trinity Church located on 150 South 400 West.  The festival begins on Thursday September 8 and ends on Sunday the 11th.  Saint Sophia School will have a  booth at the festival to advertise our wonderful school.  If you would like to volunteer a couple of hours to man the booth it will count toward your volunteer time.  Besides that, you will experience the fun, great food, and fabulous entertainment. Your entire family will enjoy it.  Please call me or come in to sign up for a time.  Thanks for your help.  I would like to thank our teachers and staff who have signed up for a time to be there.  We need your help parents by spreading the word to others on how great our school is.  We still have posters available at our school if you would like to place one in your place of employment.  Just a reminder that this Thursday is Liturgy Day which mean full dress uniforms.  Hope to see you at the Festival!

COMPUTER MONITORS AND CASSETTE PLAYERS NEEDED!

Hi Everyone,

We are in need of computer monitors.  If you have an extra monitor that you are not using, please consider donating to our school.  Every classroom is equipped with at least two computers and we would like to add more.  Also, we have many books on tape, unfortunately we are short cassette players.  If you happen to run across a Sony Walkman or any cassette player we would love to have it.  Thanks for your support.

OFF TO A GREAT START!

What a great day we had!  Thank you to Father Elias for beginning our school year with prayers and blessings.  Our students had a visit from Sheriff Jim Winder this morning.  He encouraged our students to be nice and caring toward one another and how treating people with respect and caring will help them get a job when they are older. Thank you Sheriff Winder for the encouragement this morning.  We appreciate your support that you give our school throughout the year.  Once our students were busy in their classrooms, they were surprised by Bumble the Salt Lake Bees mascot.  He visited every classroom and signed autographs.  The rooms were "buzzing" with excitement.  Students worked well in their classrooms while getting to know the procedures, routines, and fellow classmates.  What a great year we will have this year.  Thanks for your support this morning parents.  I saw many happy faces in the crowd.  I love working at Saint Sophia School and spending time with your children. A BIG THANKS to Ms. Jody Mulligan our PE teacher for setting up the fun events this morning.

YOU ARE INVITED!!!

Well, school will begin in no time.  Time flies!  Please reserve August 30 to come to Saint Sophia School's "Meet Your Teacher" open house from 4:00-6:00 p.m.  This is the day before school begins.  Teachers, parents, and students will meet together to introduce each other, see the classroom, and be given the disclosure packet that will explain what will be expected this year.  The open house will take the place of "Back to School Night."  We are excited to begin the new school year and can't wait to see you.  Keep track of your reading minutes.  You will be asked to hand your passport with recorded minutes to Mrs. Easton the first week of school.  If you have any questions please give me a call 801-455-7520.  We still have a few open spaces in our grades.  If you know of anyone who is looking for a great school, please tell them to visit us.  Thanks for support and I will see you soon.

BACK HOME!

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that we are back home.  I will be at Saint Sophia School on July 26th in the morning.  If you need to come in please know that I will be there from 9-12:00.  See you soon and keep reading to reach our goal of 40,000 minutes.  I know you can do it!  Have fun reading!

STILL ON THE ROAD!

Well, it is HOT!  Temperatures are above 100 degrees and the humidity is very high.  We spent two great weeks in Illinois and spent time with the grandbabies.  It was a blast.  Now we are in Oklahoma and it is very hot.  We were planning on going to Tombstone, Arizona but since it is so hot we will do it another time.  Heading back home this weekend and I will be back at Saint Sophia on the 26th of July.  If you haven't clicked the arrow on the home page yet, I suggest you do so.  The slide show is awesome.  I can't wait to get back to work and meet with the faculty and see the kids.  We have new students registered and I am very excited.  If you need to talk to me please call.  Again, my cell number is 801-455-7520 or come in and see me when I am back in the office.  Miss everyone and see you soon.

ROAD TRIP

Hi Everyone,

Just letting you know that my husband and I are headed out today to begin our summer road trip.  We are headed to Illinois to visit family in our motor home and then touring the southern states on our way back.  That means that I will not be coming into the office for three weeks.  However I will be keeping in touch on my blog and will have my computer with me as well as my phone.  Please feel free to contact me if you need to talk.  As soon as I have a full staff I will introduce our team to you.  I am so excited to begin my second year at Saint Sophia.  We have many wonderful things planned for our students and it is such a pleasure working with professional, creative, and compassionate teachers.  I hope everyone is reading.  I am looking forward to counting the minutes on your passport when school begins.  Our goal is to read at least 40,000 minutes.  I know we can do it.  If you haven't checked out the video on our home page please take the time to view it.  It is beautiful and I would like to thank Kelly Huntington for doing an amazing job with that as well as our beautiful yearbook.  We love you Kelly.  Well, it is time to hit the road, take care and continue having a great and safe summer.

REMEMBER TO READ EVERYDAY!

I hope your summer is going well.  Are you reading everyday for 20 minutes and keeping track in your passport?  Remember if our school reads 40,000 minutes the students will get to choose what they would like me to do.  I have kissed a pig and have had pies in the face, so I am up for a creative act.  But, we have to reach the goal, so keep reading.

Our summer camp is a success.  We have finished our first week and the students have had a blast.  They are making nifty art projects and learning songs, dances, and food from different countries.  Miss Shelly and Mrs. Romriell thanks for doing a great job.

Keep reading my blog as I will be updating it regularly.  If you need to get in touch with me you can email me at dana.easton@saintsophiaschool.org or call me 801-455-7520.

CELEBRATING A GREAT YEAR!

What a great and successful year.  The students have demonstrated that learning can be fun.  Their play was perfect.  Not only did they learn their lines and songs, but created the scenery and their costumes as well.  A good time was had by all.  Implementing the arts in school is important and Saint Sophia School is dedicated in keeping this tradition alive.  Thank you to all of our students and teachers for working so hard to make it a success.  Our year is over, but the memories will last forever.  What a great year I have had being the principal at this fine school.  I have enjoyed every minute and looking forward to next year. We are sending home our summer reading program and strong urge your child to read for at least 20 minutes a day to maintain their reading level.  Parents, it is just as important for you to read to your children as well as having them read to you.  Set a time for reading everyday.  I am wishing everyone a safe and wonderful summer and continue reading my blog as this is our main source of communication.  Again, if you need to contact me you can call me on my cell phone anytime at 801-455-7520.  Have a happy summer and again thank you for making my first year at Saint Sophia a memorable one.

NEWS! NEWS! NEWS!

Hi Parents,

Important information:

Due to a funeral at the church the small gym is unavailable for our students to practice the play.  Therefore, we are moving our play to next week, Wednesday, May 25th at 2:00.  Our students have been working hard learning songs, lines, making masks, scenery, and costumes. It is an event to remember.  Thank you to Mrs. Romriell and all of our wonderful teachers for putting it all together.  Thanks for understanding.

Please RSVP by this Thursday, May 19th if you are planning to come to our End of Year Picnic.  We need to know how much food to order.  Thanks!  Year books will be available for pick up at the picnic for those of you who ordered.

Next week we will have free dress for all students every day.  They earned it!  A reminder that Field Day is on Thursday the 26th and students should wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the relay races.  Don't forget the sunscreen that is if we see the sun!

Last day of school is Friday the 27th.  School will be dismissed at noon.

During the summer our office will be closed.  Although Judy and I will be popping in and out you may not catch us.  If you need to get a hold of me or come into the school please call my cell 801-455-7520.

Finally, testing has been completed.  If your student is in Grade 3, 4, or 5 you will be receiving the results from the state.  If your student is in K-2 I have the results for you to see.  Please come in and I can let you view the test.  School results will be posted on my blog.

Thanks for a great year.  I have enjoyed my first year here and looking forward to many more years at Saint Sophia School.  Continue checking my blog since I will be writing during the summer months.  Don't forget to have your child read every day for 20 minutes.  Research shows that students who read 20 minutes daily will maintain their reading levels or improve during the summer months.

Have a great summer!

GETTING READY FOR A NEW YEAR!

The school year is coming to an end.  We have fun plans to finish off the year.  Our school play will be on Wednesday, May 19th at 2:00 in the small gym.  Everyone is invited to watch "Midsummer's Night Dream" using favorite Beatles songs.  We hope to see all families attending the "End of Year Picnic" which will be held on Tuesday, May 24th at 6:00 p.m. and finally we will end with our Field Day activities on Thursday, May 26th from 9-12:00.  School is dimissed at noon on Friday the 27th to begin our summer vacation.  Just a reminder that  Grades K, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are testing this week, so we ask all students to get a lot of rest, eat a good breakfast, and be on time for school.  We will have the results back as soon as the State scores them.  Your next year's registration packet containing the tuition agreement needs to be handed in by this Friday, May 13th.  Summer school registration is also due this Friday, the 13th.  We then can determine how many teachers will be needed to teach our MAD summer school.  Thank you for registering early.  You will have until Friday to register.  ***Before and after care will be available for our working parents.

As the year is closing...the staff is already planning for next year.  They are collaborating and teaming together implementing higher level and critical thinking skills in their lessons.  We are all on board to become a Professional Learning Community (PLC) that is based on learning outcomes. A PLC school always asks the following questions: "What do we want students to learn, how are we going to teach it, and what will we do for those who did not learn it?"  I met with an accreditation team-member this past Friday and he was quite impressed with the direction that our school is going.  With a new vision of  "all students will learn at their highest level" and  the increase of technology equipment, we are ready to set sail on our new adventures.  The teachers have already boarded and are committed to this philosophy.  If you think this year was great, wait until next year!  Every classroom will be equipped with a document camera and projector that attaches to a computer.  This will enable students to learn using "up to date" information.  Integrating technology into each classroom will give our students opportunities that they could not get with just using textbooks.  Saint Sophia students will become critical thinkers which will help them become successful adults.  We are making innovative changes and ask our community to "THINK AGAIN."  Wouldn't you want your child to attend Saint Sophia School?  We have a lot to offer.  Thanks for a great year!

ENROLLMENT FOR NEXT YEAR!

I hope everyone had a great spring break and ready to finish our school year with a big bang.  More fun activities are planned in May as we celebrate the ending of a successful school year.  We are now in the process of ordering supplies for next year, but most importantly I am in the process of staffing.  Staffing is based on the number of students enrolled.  To assure that we have the correct number of teachers assigned, it is imperative to know the total enrollment.  Therefore, I am asking the families that have not registered to make your decision by May 6th or sooner.  Families who have registered for next year will be receiving their registration packet this week.  We are sending them home with your child.  Again, I am asking all families who have not registered for next year to make a decision before May 6th.  Thank you for understanding this situation.  Please call me if you would like to discuss this with me.  I appreciate all of you and love all of your children.

TOMORROW KITE DAY AND PLANT A FLOWER ACTIVITY!

The sun will be shining brightly tomorrow and our kites will be flying high.  Please have your child bring a kite to fly and a flower to plant.  Our garden is looking nice already and the flowers that have been planted are healthy.  Since tomorrow is a culmination day from our month's "specials" and we are doing fun activities, we are asking students to wear comfortable clothes.  Therefore it is "FREE DRESS DAY" at Saint Sophia.  Our school is dismissed at noon. I hope that you and your family enjoy a pleasant Spring Break.  Students don't forget to read everyday while you are out of school.  We will be having a summer reading contest and our goal is to read 40,000 minutes.  Mrs. Easton hasn't decided yet what to do if the goal is reach, but promises it will be entertaining.

GREEK INDEPENDENCE DAY PROGRAM AND LITURGY!

Hi Parents,

Your children have been busy practicing for our program which will be held on Thursday, March 24th at 6:00p.m. in the small gym.   Your family is invited to attend and celebrate with us.  Besides the songs, dances, and speaking parts your family will enjoy our first annual art show which will be held in the large gym.  Miss Shelly, our pre-school/art teacher has taught a variety of art concepts that will be displayed for your pleasure after our program.  It will be a night of fun and celebration.  A big thank you to all the teachers, Miss Nitsa and Miss Carrie, Miss Shelly, Cerah Nordoff, Jennifer Romreill, Grant Carter, and the rest of the staff at Saint Sophia.  Good job students!

A reminder that Liturgy will be this Friday at 9:30.  We ask the students to wear their full uniform this day.  Thanks!

THANKS PARENTS FOR GETTING THE WORD OUT!

Thanks to all the parents who have taken a poster advertising our school.  We still have posters in the front hall if you need more.  Word of mouth is the best advertisement.  Let people know how wonderful our school is and why you send your child here.  I am always bragging about Saint Sophia School to my friends, family, and the people that I meet.  It is truly a great place to be.  From my experience in public education, I see such a positive experience at Saint Sophia School.  There is no other school that can compare to the compassion and individual attention that our students get here.  Quality teachers and staff members make our school unique in many ways.  Our teachers provide our students with "hands-on" learning activities that improve  critical thinking skills which is so important in life.  They are not just a number in a large classroom of 30 students getting lost in the mix.  Each student is valued and cared for.  Thank you to all the parents who have registered their child here for the up coming year.  I know you are pleased with the progress that your child has made and trust in us to continue the journey.  For those of you who are still undecided, please come in and visit with me.  I will be happy to answer your questions.  Finally, for those of you who have registered your child at another school, I ask that you come in and chat with me as well.  We need to stay together to keep Saint Sophia running the way it should.  Please call or come in so that we can talk.  The door is always open and you are always welcome.

PLEASE TAKE A POSTER TO HANG IN YOUR PLACE OF BUSINESS!

Recruiting time is here.  If your place of employment allows you to hang posters up that advertise, please take a poster advertising Saint Sophia School.  Please ask family members and friends to hang a poster up as well.  Saint Sophia is a great school and we need to advertise.  Word of mouth is the best advertisment.  Please get the word out about Saint Sophia School and how great it is.  We need your help during recruiting time.  Thanks!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS-THURSDAY, MARCH 31ST

Due to a busy week, our "Celebration Friday" scheduled for March 25th, has been moved to Thursday, March 31st.  On Thursday, March 24th you are invited to join us to celebrate Greek Independence Day.  Our program will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the small gym.  We are also exhibiting all of the art projects that have been created during the year.  Our "ART EXHIBIT" will take place in our Large Gym.  It will be a great night of celebration and performance.  Friday, March 25th our school will be attending Liturgy so we ask that your child dress in full uniform on this day.

Please mark your calendar with all the activities planned.  Your student had a great experience during "Read Across America" specialties.  They learned and participated in critical thinking activities that connected to real life situations.  Our "specials" have been successful and will continue.  Hope to see you on March 31st at 8:15.

APROKRIES PARADE BROUGHT IN A LOT OF CHARACTERS!

From pirates to princesses, we saw it all.  The students dressed up as their favorite story book character to celebrate Aprokries Day and to wrap up Read Across America Week.  The week was filled with activities celebrating Dr. Seuss' Birthday.  Students made GAK, learned how to set a table while learning the place setting names in Greek, sing songs from the play "Seussical", find their footing with playing games in PE, and appreciating and understanding the differences in ourselves as well as others while thinking up ways we can take care of our planet.  All of these activities were created by our great teachers, using Dr. Seuss books. The "hands on" activities that the students experienced will last their lifetime.  It was a fun way to learn about science, math, arts, PE, ecology and self esteem.  Students are happy here and that says a lot.  Saint Sophia is a great place to be.  Thank you to Orie Kambouris for making our morning fun.  Also, a big thank you to Cindy Johnson and the SSSPA members for a successful Book Fair.  Last, but not least, a big thank you to our families for the generosity and support.  Have a great weekend.

DO YOU LIKE GREEN EGGS AND HAM?

Our preschool enjoyed a green eggs and ham breakfast this morning celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday.  We began the day with a birthday song and Dads and Bagels.  What a busy and fun week we are having.  Moms and Muffins was Marvelous yesterday and we all enjoyed shopping at the book fair.  Parent Teacher Conferences will be held tomorrow.  There is no school for the students, however we ask that you bring them with you to their conferences.  Please have your child dress in their costume this Friday.  Our Aprokries parade will begin at 9:00.  We will parade in the small gym.  Everyone is invited to join the parade.  It will be a lot of fun.  I have my costume ready, do you?  Thanks for all the great support you have given us this week.  I hope everyone has had a great time so far!

"CELEBRATION FRIDAY" A SUCCESS!!!

What a great turn out!  I hope you enjoyed your morning.  The smiles on the students' faces said it all.  The hot chocolate was HOT, Coffee good, and the students' displays were amazing.  Our second graders showed their animal reports to their parents using Power Point Presentations.  Every grade did something spectacular.  That is what makes our school unique and successful.  We are doing great things at Saint Sophia and plan to continue.  The rest of the year is filled with higher level thinking activities and wait for next year, it will be even greater.  A big thank you to Father Elias who dropped by to see the displays.  Thank you parents for your continued support!

THANK YOU SSSPA!

Yesterday was one of the best days of the school year according to our students.  It was "Friendship Day" and students showed each other how important friends are to them.  We topped it off with a pizza luncheon provided by our SSSPA.  Thank you to Cerah Nordoff and Laura Lewon for a fun and exciting lunch.  The students enjoyed their time eating and chatting with friends.

We are planning many more "fun" experiences during the weeks ahead including "Read Across America" week celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday.  During the week our students will experience "SPECIALTIES" classes that will provide critical thinking activities that will make learning fun and exciting. When students learn to think more critically, they become more proficient at historical, scientific, and mathematical thinking. They develop skills, abilities and values critical to success in everyday life.

Dear Parents and Students,

You are invited to attend our first of many "Celebration Fridays" on February 25th from 8:15 a.m. until 8:50.  Come with your family and enjoy a cup of coffee or hot chocolate while you visit classrooms and look at all the work your child has done for the month of February.  Ask them to tell you about their projects and if you have any questions they will answer them for you.  This is a good opportunity for our Saint Sophia family to see one another and visit.  We are excited to share with you the wonderful projects that have been creative.  Set aside the last Friday of each month to join us at the Celebration Fridays event.  You are always welcome at Saint Sophia School.  I love to see parents, grandparents, and siblings come in to visit. Please stop in anytime that is convenient for you and visit us.

Thank you for a SUPER SOUPER BOWL of Caring!

What a caring and generous family we have at Saint Sophia School.  Thanks you for the donation of food that was brought to our school.  Our Souper Bowl of Caring brought enough food to make a Super Labyrinth in our upstair hallway.  We will donate all the food to the Utah Food Bank.  Since I have been here I have been amazed with the generosity that goes on with every service project that we have done.  Our community is compassionate and always willing to help.  Thank you so much, and I hope your Super Bowl team is successful this Sunday.

GO GREENBAY.....GO STEELERS!

I would like to give a big THANK YOU to them and show how much I appreciate and love them.  It is a pleasure and honor to work among professionals that are positive and fun.  They make my day. The students and teachers make Saint Sophia School a great place to be.
