Do I have to be Greek to attend?
No. Our student body and faculty are a diverse mix of ethnic and cultural identities.
Why does my child have to study Greek?
Greek is the basis for many words and phrases in math, science and health and a basic understanding of Greek provides an advantage for students throughout their education.
What if we are not Orthodox Christians?
Many of our families and faculty members are not Orthodox Christians. Orthodoxy is a non-proselytizing faith, respecting all religions based on love and compassion. All students attend weekly religion class and Holy Liturgy once per month.
What is Hellenism?
Hellenism generally signifies identification with ancient Greek civilization of the Fifth Century B.C. that sought to advance humanity through the arts and sciences. Hellenism embodied a lifestyle that included developing a sound mind and sound body through academics, a vibrant civic life, advancement of democratic ideals and living an ethical life.
At what age can my child start?
Children can start at 3 years old (out of diapers & pull-ups).
Do you offer full day pre-school, kindergarten and after school care?
Yes. Our pre-school and pre-kindergarten classes are 1/2 day or full day with a pick up at noon or 3:30. Our kindergarten is all day and we offer after school care for all ages with an additional fee from 3:30-5:30.
Do parents need to volunteer?
Yes, parent involvement is very important and appreciated at Saint Sophia School. As a requirement parents are asked to volunteer 20 hours during a school year or pay $10.00 for each hour that they do not fulfill.
